Beginner has equipment question:

is there a website or forum which ranks equipment quality?

I've just started foil fencing. Our club is tiny and underfunded so we don't use electric setups. Dry all the way for us.(it's through a community college: hey, what did you expect).

I've gotten a Triplette starter set, which I'm enjoying thoroughly. But the problem I had is that I had no idea what to look for when getting the equipment. I am happy with the results. My blade is stiffer than the loaner equipment, and has a much better balance for me. So, how do I find this stuff out?

I'm afraid there is no difinitive comparison of equipment. The problem, especially with the blades it is mostly a manual process, so quality for the same manufaturer can vary widely. Since you are in Austin, you will have the Summer Nationals there and the Armorers there can go over what to look for in getting equipment.

Thanks...

So, when exactly are the summer nationals in Austin, anyway?

(It'll give me something to look forward to)

June 28 through July 6

You could also attend the Yorrick Open (in a couple of weeks), and Karen Johnson (Austin FC) re-sells equipment. The advantage for you is that if you need it before the end of June, you could see and try with her. However, as the armourers have told you, wait until the Nationals if you can. Every vendor will be there.
