Ok, some of those results dont make sense, Ivan Lee has an indicator of 64 but only comes second despite the fact he won all his matches??? There are a few like that, is it some wierd NCAA scoring system or generally a transcription error?
Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls!
The final four placement are due to the DEs among the top-4 finishers from the team matches. The scores indicated are the results only from the team matches.
After the team matches are concluded, the top-four fence in a DE (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3; winner vs winner, loser vs loser). The final listing for the top-4 is based on this DE result. The points and such are only from the team matches, and are the only ones that matter for the team standings.
24 fencers are grouped into 8 teams of three. They fence against each other first. Then each team of three meet another team of three in a round-robin format. Each team of three meets all other teams of three. So, it's one huge round-robin of 24 fencers.
Best result would be 23-0, of course.
The top-4 best result then fence off in the DE format to determine individual champions.
The "team" isn't a team comprised of members of the same school, although in many cases, two of the three fencers in the team may be from the same school.
