French grip - Pommel Fitting

I'm fitting a French grip and pommel onto en epee and noticed that there's not a good fit between where the pommel meets the back of the French grip . In fact the pommel has about a 1/4 inch of hollow space where is appears designed to overlap the very end of the grip. Trouble is, the perimeter of the grip's too big for the pommel to fit over.

Is it legal to fit some type of grommet or a bunch of washers in to fill that space and ensure a nice firm fit?

Anyone else encounter this before?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Miguel

The length between the most anterior part of the guard and the most posterior part of pommel must be 20cm or less.

You need to cut the tang of the blade about 1/4 inch to fit properly.

It's perfectly legal, but the best approach is what Tim suggested--
cut the tang a bit shorter to fit properly.

Rereading the first post, it appears that Miguelito is not saying there is a gap between the handle and the pommel, but the pommel has an indention to overlap the handle. Shortening the tang, won't change that.

If I am reading this right, I have another suggestion. If this is a wooden handle, then you will have metal endcaps. What you do is remove the back (round) endcap. That is what that pommel was designed for. If you have a plastic or metal, it would be more work. If I misread this use Tim's suggestion, but remember the 20cm comment by JEC.
