Array Generally to the Board Dear Board,
I'm a serious but fairly new fencer. I enjoy fencing very much. I try to encourage new fencers whenever possible and I've been writing with you people for several years. Every once in a while someone on the board gets testy with another person on the board and before you know it, we're at full throttle.
I am especially concerned that people are attacking one another on the board. I feel badly because we don't seem to be able to communicate as before.
I don't always have the correct ideas, but I feel that the board is where we find out if we are incorrect also. I'm going to try just to read the posts, and maybe only occassionally speak. Thanks. -

Array My dear.
I apologize if I have ever offended you. My personality, and rough attitude is as a result of the industry I am in. I have strong views, and can become very abraisive. However, I will try to pay attention to your concerns for any future discussions on my part.
Please continue to post. I enjoy reading your ideas, and your comments. (Makes for an interesting board!)
Ciau,
p.s.- Reading on to further posts, it's apparent there is more to this issue behind the scene's. I am unaware of what it is....best regards, and hope any issues can be worked out without hard feelings on either side.

Array Mango, 135711, The Claw, etc.
A problem that I have observed in the webforum is that people occasionally do not abide by the webforum etiquette when posting messages. Often, I seen "you" post messages that are informative and your opinion regarding the topic in question. However, with about the same frequency, "you" also post messages that have little or nothing to do with the thread in question.... almost free association. The latter messages are what upsets people. After a while, some people just ignore "all" of your responses, some people read all or some of your messages, and a few people take an issue with your comments. Furthermore, when you use several pseudonims, some people have gotten further irritated. Humans, in general, like predictable behaviors. You might have noticed that a higher amount of testiness has occurred when you use a new member name in a thread, post an unrelated message, and then later acknowledge that is yours. Predictibility makes people more comfortable. As you know, in every human disagreement problem, it is required to have at least two people, and generally, both sides have at least, a portion (perhaps of different degree) of responsability for the situation. I apologized if you feel offended by my comments in this post or other posts. However, I hope you give them some serious thought.

Array You are evading my comment regarding your potential contribution to the problem... Identifying a problem is the first step to a solution. -

Array You shouldn't of started the topic if ya don't want to talk about it. -

Array Mike,
She responded... changed her opinion again ... and deleted her message and posted another one indicating that she was not interested in following up. All in the span of less than 12 hours. Clearly, she has no insight that her behavior is at least part of the problem. BTW your friend has not showed up anymore.

Array I simply don't have the spare time to put into the board anymore, nothing personal is intended by this post, or any other post. There are no threads here that bear any resemblence to reality, any resemblence to a character real or imagined is purely coincidental. This is not a snotty thing, it's my way of checking out for a little while. I will definetly see you people around. As the terminator says: Later! Ciao! Be good! -

Array Identify the problem is something in someone else's mind, I don't perceive a problem, I found it interesting and charming that fencers write on a board about fencing, politics and so forth, and that it appears it's one of our basic rights and freedoms to be able to write, within the bounds of decency, and use which ever names we chose. I see no problem in using more than one name, and the insistence of anyone to the contrary only says that you need to know more about your people, while I don't. I tend to leave people alone. -

Array Originally posted by KShan5[PrFC] Agreed ...having avoided that same observation, I confess to following this thread with the same curiosity that causes me to slow down as I gawk at car accidents, and pause on the clicker as I pass by daytime TV talk shows featuring chairthrowing boyfriends of the mistresses of married men living in trailers.
Pehaps its time for the webmaster / host to include some useful links to a twelve step program for internet discussion board addiction. All the signs are there. Quitting one day and posting a new thread the next. Multiple personalities, 1231 posts in one year for one identity alone - a rate of 3.53 posts / day.
135711, this is not to be seen as a personal attack, but an impartial observation. Channel your energies in to fencing more and talking about it less. Talk with real people in the real world - have real conversations. You will be less temped to make off topic posts here and ultimately feel more connected to the world in real ways that are concrete and tangible.
Do 3.53 strips worth of footwork per day, try 353 lunges per week, paint your mask and buy striped socks for your next competition. Do drills with beginners to help them and refine your form. Have fun! -

Array that's the unfortunate part, i take the board serious, if i comment say one thing that others don't agree with i start getting messages from the webmaster that 'several people have complained that 135711 is off topic and please stay on topic', so i got discouraged, and then i started getting garbage from edew about my spelling, and i found that discouraging, but this is not license to slam him either, he has his merits, and i noticed that as soon as i mentioned that it was getting a little upsetting everyone jumped on his back also, which i thought was a little unfair.
the board is a little like fencing, you fence your own bout, but if your break a rule, a real rule, then it's fair for the monitor or webmaster to complain, but it should really come from them, it's like the girl who *accidentially" poured water on the strip where i was fencing, it wasn't so good. So, lets not gang up on each other.
I think its okay to digress, it's part of lively conversation, that's why there's so many threads, people feel forced into writing new topics every time they have a new thought.
okay, so, that said, i have no quarrels with any of you, and you're very nice to have replied. thanks again board, for the pat on the back. -
