| Frequency of practise How often do you guys and gals go to the salle?
Personally, I go 6 days a week.
2 hours per weeknight (7:30-9:30); 1 hour of excercise/footwork and 1 hour of bouting.
4 hours on saturdays(1pm - 5 pm); 2 hours of excercise/footwork and 2 hours of bouting.
And I lift weights and train about 4-5 days a week on my own time.

| Wish I could be that dedicated....
I have a 1/2 hour lesson once a week and fence for about 2 hours, not by choice but there is one Salle in hobart and its only open twice a week and I can only get there once a week. I also do an hours Pilates class once a week as well as 2 hours of dancing most weeks.
If I was in Brisbane however if I really wanted to and my car was up there and not down here with me I could fence for 2 hours on a Monday at Uni, 2-3 hours on a Tuesday on the Southside, 3 hours at City fencers on Wednesday, 2 hours at BFA on Thursday and another 3 hours on Saturday at City fencers and maybe a couple of hours on Sunday at City fencers Southside. This would include footwork sessions. I wouldnt be doing pilates or dancing but would be have 2 15-20 minute lessons a week as well as competing every second month or so.

| I go to lessons twice a week for an hour each (Mondays and Thursdays).
I have an hour compulsory PE each week as well, which at the moment is spent in the gym (last term it was basketball, next term it will be badminton).
I do situps in my room whenever I remember, and try to practise footwork around the house as much as possible.
If I could fence every night I would happily do it!

| Not like me... I have lessons twice a week for 2 hours, and when I'm not at lessons, I run on the treadmill for atleast 30 minutes a day, do exercises on those big exercise balls for 35 min, occansionally lift weights, read books on fencing techniques and practice them for 30 minutes, footwork for 10 min. (it gets boring without someone challenging you) And, on top of all that, I modified my diet and eating habits so I can loose weight to become faster and harder to hit! How's that for dedication in fencing? Ha! |

| Fencing twice a week for several hours, plus tournaments on a couple of weekends a month, year-round for over eight years. Lifting, biking, walking, whenever I can. Teaching elementary school full-time, taking care of my mother, being a parent and spouse, and having a life in my off hours.
I've had pretty good results with this routine, all things considered.

| Time Management After a while, fencers get to know how to manage their time; they get pretty good with completing household chores real fast, things like grocery shopping, laundry, floor washing, vacuuming, and so forth are done almost scientifically. |

| Busy, but no problem After a while, you become very good with time management- Like now, I can get 3 hours of homework done in half the time and still maintain my place on the "A" Honor Roll, then I go clean out cages and take care of my SEVEN rabbits in 45 min, eat dinner in less than 10 minutes and then go fencing for atleast 2 hours - My schedule is like this twice a week, and for the time being that I'm NOT fencing I run/cardio for 30 min, footwork and reading about fencing for 1 hour, practicing what I've learned from the books for 15 min. So happy I took up this sport. How's that for time management! |

It's easy! Just IMMEDIATLY do homework/housework after you get home from work/school, and don't dawdle.Keep moving, & don't stop. That means NO TV, computer, or sitting untill EVERYTHING, including fencing, is done. You can also do more than one thing at once, make things quicker (Like have your meal be an energy bar on the way to fencing) Try moving lessons to a different time and day, cause it worked for me-it made me go straight from school immediatly to fencing - that way, I have no excuse not making it out of the house on time. Believe me, with seven 15 pound rabbits and their cages to clean, 3 hours of homework, lessons, and my chores, I KNOW how to manage time. Hope this inspires ya to fence more and watch your time wisely. |

| How do I have time? I dunno. I work part time, go to college full time and fence all the rest of the time. In fact, if it wasn't for the flu, I probably would never have had the time to post on this message board.
*shakes fist at the flu*
Can't wait till I'm better and back in the salle.

| Wow. Thanks, I'm definitely inspired. My problem is probably in the fact that I do "dawdle", watch TV, or something to that extent. Also, since I go to school, I have to do homework, which usual takes about 3 to 4 hours (I know I could cut off an hour or so if I focus a little more). Maybe I should start trying to manage my time...hmm... |

| I fenced for my last 2 years at Uni and time management was good. In my final year on Wednesdays I used to get into the lab about 9am or so, work till 5:00, go to the local shopping centre for some food and be at fencing by 6:30. I'd fence till 9ish and then go back to the lab for an hour or so. Saturdays I used to go in after fencing for a couple of hours if I had slides in the cooker.

| Read this for further motivation Well, I'm glad I helped you- Try to do as much work as you can get done at school, then do a mad dash to home to finish it. Once you're done, go straight to fencing. THEN afterwards you can chill watching TV or whatever. Just remember this if you need a motivator: If I don't get off my butt from watching reruns, I won't have enough time for homework, which means there's no fencing tonight- and if I only go an hour a week, I'll NEVER be good at it since what I learned the previous time will have almost slipped my mind, and I won't master anything or get anywhere if this dawdling pattern keeps up. Say this in your head everytime you catch yourself procrastinating, and soon your time managment, as well as your skill in fencing, possibly grades, WILL improve since you did neccesary and have more free time- After all, is watching TV more important than the high adrenaline sport of fencing that offers unlimited rewards?(which occurs when ya have time to get good) You decide. |

| personally, i fence twice a week at practice for 2 and a half hours.
Tuesday is "hell day", where we do nothing but work out for almost all of the time, and then attemp to fence in this energy deprived state.
Friday is free fencing. yay!
Sundays are sometimes tournament days for me! i just had 3 tournaments in a row, so none for this week!
is anyone here going to fencing camp this summer? if you live in NE, are you going to the Brown one? |

| I went to the Brown one last year Harry, as did Ben and Christina. It is a lot of fun and you should try to go. I willif I have the money after the Nationals, but I am unsure how likely that will be. The Brown camp is short though, only 5 days of fencing, and the last day their is a tournament. But I say go for it.
