fitting longer grip to foil blade I've got a foil blade fitted for a small pistol grip, and I want to put a larger grip on it. But of course the tang is too short for the larger grip. Is there any way to do this - e.g., some kind of adaptor that will thread onto the old threads and still fit within the bore of the grip? (As you can probably tell I'm new at this.) I'm guessing the answer is no, just thought I'd make sure. -
If the tang is only a little short, you can use a
large drill bit to bore down the shoulder in the handle. There's a limit to how far you can do that, however. Otherwise, there's not much you can do.
One thing to consider is that most larger grips are really too long up front for most people's hands. Even if the body of the grip is larger, you still want it to sit forward in the hand (right in the vertical fold of the first knuckles), with the end of the thumb just reaching the guard pad. You'll probably need to cut off the neck of the grip with a hacksaw to get it to the right length, and that shortening of the neck may be enough for it to fit on your blade.

Array Dave is right on everything he said. A future suggestion, especially for teams that may switch handles, use an outside hex pommel. This allows you to make the tang longer and still fit on both the small and large handles.
There is some disadvatages with this. First you must use a washer. The pommel can slip down the handle otherwise. Also having walls of only 1mm thick in places they do tend to break more option.
You can use a 'Tokyo-Sport' style pommel. It has the top of an outside hex pommel and the base of an inside hex pommel. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com
