Fitting of fencing jackets

Hello,

I recently got a size 46 Estoc 350 newton fencing jacket. The jacket seems a little tight although it does actually fit my body. I have previousley used 46 size jackets of other brands, but they have not been as tight. How exactley should a jacket fit? Should it be tight, loose? How much arm mobility should one expect, and do jackets stretch with age?

Many Thanks

- Michal
P.S. I am but a beginner, my apologies for lack of knowledge!

LDR is on a distinguished road
After recently purchasing my first 350N nylon jacket from PBT, I had the initial feeling that the jacket was a little snug - especially in the shoulders.

But my instructor explained that nylon jackets are supposed to be a little snug, but not constricting. Having a snug fit also prevents sword tips from getting caught in the folds of the jacket if it's too large. Like most folks, I started out using the cotton-denim jackets at the club; those things are typically untapered, and oversized in the first place.

Hi,

I don't know about Estoc but Allstar certainly vary their sizes based upon build. Have a look at their sizing chart:

That underplastron takes up some of the slack, it is becoming like you gotta wear one, when you are fencing, or about to fence, take it off later when you not fencing. That is also a 3 quarters and a full body version, and leons paul does supplies it also, also is Allstar and the Uhlmann in supplying of them sizes wacth out the European and the American sensible sizes. Compair them, do it.

Thank you!

Thank you for all your insightful advice. I have taken the time to use my new jacket a bit, and I am finding it to be rather comfortable after all. Though, if I wear a plastron will it become a lot more snug? At this point it fits pretty well, since I am now used to the tightness.
