| Philistine,
Thank you for pointing out the diff betweeen S.E. TEXAS and Austin...
----------(---
Hey, latenight, you changed your location !! I still don't know where your new location is.
----------(---
epeemike,
Very well written and reasoned rebuttal.
One of the fallouts of the Patriot act and the Domestic Security Enhancement Act is that Canada gets a lot more immigration application from people from the Mid East [Dubya and Ashcroft must be thinking, "Blame Canada."]
Another is that a lot of naturalised Canadians and immigrants who were born in those named Mideast counties who used to work in the US and live in Cda because of the delay - up to 3 hours each time they cross the Cda-US border - have quit their US jobs...
One of our juniors was born in Lebanon, his father works in Quwait, and he's reluctant to go to the US to compete...
It's very, very sad.

It's funny, actually...my parents' families are all up in PA. |

| Re: austin Quote: Originally posted by latenight I think D'art is referring to the perception pf a lot of Texans that Austin is a very liberal city in a conservative state. When I was there on business several of the local company folks made comments sort of to that effect with quite a bit of conviction and distain.
I don't know about all of that and don't know that I care, but I will say that Austin is a great town to party in! ;-) |
The funny thing is, most of the Austin liberals, and there are a lot of us, hold true to the belief that the government should butt out of our private lives, a thought which was originally conservative.
Now the conservatives want to spread an oppressive government into all aspects of our lives in the name of 'security'. Wasn't it Ben Franklin (and I believe Churchill has a similar thought) who said that those who would sacrifice a little freedom in the name of security deserve neither?
I remember when we could at least count on the GOP for being fiscally responsible. Now Bush is trying to cut taxes to the wealthiest percentage of US citizens at the same time he's asking for 74 billion to fight the war in Iraq (and absolutely *nothing* for humanitarian aid...the GOP-controlled Senate added 2 billion to the emergancy proposal for humanitarian aid), and running the government deficit up to record levels as he oversees the largest expansion of government EVER. (Yes, even larger than ALL THE NEW DEAL PROGRAMS TOGETHER!)
What gives? |

| Some articles have been written claiming that GWB really believes that his mission as president is divinely directed by god. Er, that's god with a capital G.
He really believes whatever he's doing, it's the will of God.
Thanks a lot, Floridians.

| FP,
You really should get your spelling in shape.
Suggestion: read PROPER books more ofte. Magazines and newspaper will do too.
I mean actually READ them, not out loud, or mouth the words. Sorry, I got distracted. I was making fun of you. I apologise.
The threads in this forum do NOT constitute lood literature. In fact, I recognise that only a handful of us try very hard to write properly.
---)------------
Eric,
I think, no, I know you're right in your assertion. So do many of the pundits.
---)------------
daeceg,
the funny thing is this:
What was the Conservatice principles are now the Liberal principles and vice versa.
It's most confusing.
Nowadays, everybody is stepping in on the others' territory priciplewise. Evertone is crowding towards the certre to get elected...

| FP,
Did I write that you're stupid? No, I did NOT. Neither did I imply that.
The only 'joke' if one can call it that is my reference to lip reading vs. menatl reading. I don't thin kthat is stupid. A lot of people can't speed read - hi5 is one that I know who can - and the are not stupid.
The point I'm trying to make is this, FP, you yourself is very, VERY sensitive about this inability to spell, somuchso that you mentioned that you got your friend to check the spelling for you. And I mentioned in return that perhaps you should write your posting in MS Word or some such word processing programmes then cut and paste it here.

This is what your post would have looked like had it been properly typed:

Not being able to spell doesn't make me stupid...so your apology is'n't accepted...

so, FP, don't get upset over this. There are more important thigns to get upset over, like the war in Iraq.

| spell check i don't see the point of any of this, is this a spelling bee? are we kids, lining up to spell words correctly? what will it do? does it count? will we make some kind of significant contribution through spelling? why do you think someone invented spell-check, because no-one can spell.
Typical of 20th century graphics, primarily violent, - and what's the point in that? I looks at though it was made by the same person who made the Hello Taliban animation which I received also. It starts with Osama sitting at a desk and the phone rings and he answers it 'teleban!!'. etc etc. Are you writing from jail?
Pkt, you sound a little upset about things, it may be all the writing. |

| 135711,
I'm not being 'strident'.
If I do, it's because I hate to be misunderstood. cue the Animals' "Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood"
But then again I might not be myself. We sold our house and have yet to find a place to live...
--------------(---
FP,
that's not good.
Again, I'm not trying to be critical.
Seeing that you're only 14 going onto 15, perhaps you should - as anne landers was so fond of recommending - seek professional help with anger management. It'll be worth it in the long run.
In some Japanese factories, they have this padded room, employees can take fotos (13577, I prefer the Italian speeling to the English of this word) of the boss and pin the foto to a dummy and then use a shinai - the kendo bamboo sword - to beat the heck out of it to rid themselves of teh frustration. It's a coping mechanism.
Me? I go fencing. Turn off my mind and beat the heck out of my opponant. Win or lose, it's still a good thing.
Take care,

| FP,
Perhaps you should try meditating. It'll cost less.
I can of course also ask you to become a Budhist... oh, that's another thread.
