Why is it called Jr Olympics if it's not international? What's the Olympic connection?
Why is it called Jr Olympics if it's not international? What's the Olympic connection?
A lot of USA Olympic sports call their junior national championships "Junior Olympics". Water polo, volleyball, track and field to name a few.

I think it is because "High School National Championship" was taken.

It gives us parents something to brag about when our kids qualify. It ain't easy being a fencing parent, because most of the other parents don't have any context for what we tell them about our kids' accomplishments. My understanding is that the JO's began as a grassroots event and that USFencing adopted it at some point. Could be local folklore. Anybody know the origin of JO's?

And anyone who's MET Fr. Calhoun can understand how he got it going...I never met a priest that swore until I met him!! Tough guy.
And somehow...I never think of Lawrence as his first name....his first name will always be Father to me.
