    Black Light fencing?

I'm all for making things fun and interesting, but does this strike anyone else as a particularly bad and potentially unsafe idea?

I know it's not a real sport with any real physical risk involved, but I'm sure most bowling purists could talk your ear off regarding the evils of glow-bowling.

It's been around for a while.

    Here's a video; http://youtu.be/7Kd7j4eUzIc

As I understand it, the group that runs it sees it as nothing more than a bit of fun. As they've been doing it for a while they probably have a handle on the risks.

Edit: One thing that's missing from that video is the fluorescent tape that the guys who did this last time put on the foils to help everyone understand what was going on.

I'm seeing laser pointer on the floor, lights being shined at the fencer (in apparent attempt to distract from action), ... and the guy on the right is wearing a cape. I know these guys are probably E or D rated, if that, but... I'm just not diggin it.

It makes SCA fencing seem safe and sane.

    I'd try it.

You want to pick me up on the way down? I'm good for tolls.

I should say, "I *would* go, if circumstances permitted." That's a teaching night.

I'm curious what the entry fee is, though. I don't see the fee listed on FRED.

How do blacklight fencers deal with uniforms of varying phosphorescence? (can't view the video over my present connection) It would kinda stink if you were glowing like an archangel and your opponent happened to be virtually invisible, just because of different detergent & fabric chemistries!

Way to weasel out. (forgot the smiley on the other post)

Sounds fun. Strobe light would be good too.

Have participated in a blacklight epee night. It did nott strike me as particularly unsafe. On the other hand, it was hard to get a good sense of depth perception and it was difficult at times to see the blade clearly.

From the video this looks really cool but what would make it better would be if they used the black light paint on the foils. This would make it some what safer and more fun to watch.
