I wasn't there, but I do know G. K.'s best days as a referee are long behind him.

I once had a fencer fencing someone from NYC with GK refereeing. My fencer scored a one-light touch. GK gave the point to the other fencer, until I pointed out that the light was one-light in favor of my fencer. It wasn't even a one-light counterattack. It was attack, counterattack into the guard.

Yeah, I did that once. It was embarrassing. I've seen other refs -- good ones -- do it, too, from time to time. That sort of thing is just a slip of the eyes, not an indication of incompetence.

I didn't say that. I was merely offering a counter argument to merg's implication that George K was relatively infallible.

I did recently see George forget to reset the clock between pool bouts. The first touch came two seconds in and the clock read 0:59. The fencers obviously share the blame for not bringing it to his attention - the bout ended up at 5-0 (in part due to the losing fencer's perception that time was running out) with about 20 second elapsed.

There's probably a reason why the FIE won't let people ref past a certain age...

Not that we can afford that luxury here.
