    I checked the time data on my photos -- the foil bout lasted one hour, 14 minutes ... surely that must be some kind of a record!

    The reason it lasted so long was for a variety of reasons:

    1. The format was best three out of five bouts (five touches)
    2. The winner had to win each bout by two touches
    3. If tied or only within one point, the bouts go to 20 touches before sudden death kicked in
    4. Vashkevich got injured and had to take a 10 minute break

    At least it was filled with action, humor, and drinking was encouraged...
