Sabre Guards What is a decent Sabre guard to get? Is it worth getting the FwF guard or an Uhlmann/Allstar? The guard I have on my sabre right now is the new extra lightweight ACG guard from BG that came on my sabre from them and after only a month it is showing more wear then my sons much older standard BG sabre guard. The guard is also about 1/6 of inch shorter in diameter than my sons and I find that if I stand in front of a mirror it doesn't always cover my arm/hand as well. So I'm thinking about replacing it. Thanks in advanced for the help, where I live there is only 1 small club and all their equipment is BG so I can't really try out different gear. -

Array I like PBT's entire sabers... guards and all. Now I am not too sure they wear any better than others and really do not care because I like the way they feel in my hand. I had an Estoc, and the guard got beaten up pretty quickly, but probably because it was one of the favorites at my club... It just got used more! Array Absolute's guards have proved durable for me. Same approximate shape and weight as the Allstar ones.
I have no experience with FwF guards, but I understand that they are to all intents and purposes the makers of Allstar equipment as it used to be ( whereas Allstar today is essentially Chinese stuff ). Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -
The best saber guard I've used has been the cheap one The Fencing Post sells. The worst I've used has been the Leon Paul saber guard. Absolute and F.net both sell decent options. I wouldn't spend extra for a "name brand" saber guard. -

Array LP in particular seems to make fragile guards. -

Array Honestly, guards never made much of a difference to me. I'm quite picky over grips, pads, and blades, but the guard itself, I couldn't care less over.
That said, I have standard BG guards and I'm happy with them. "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."
(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..." -

Array Pads?! Really? Pads make a difference to your where guards don't?
Grips and blades I can see, but... Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -
Thanks for all the advice... I had been thinking about LP because I love the weight of their insulated pommel but I will stay away from those now. I had no problem with the standard BG guards which is what was on the club sabre I was using and on my sons but when I got my own they shipped me their new lightweight guard. I have been making my sabre mine by replacing out parts and finding what works and im not happy with my guard. Similar Threads -
