Things to do in Salt Lake City

For those arriving Friday the 17th or earlier:
    http://www.visitparkcity.com/quickst...ickstartstep=1

Free same-day lift tickets in Park City, UT for day of arrival. I don't know if half a day on the slopes is good preparation for a weekend of competition, but some might be interested.

I though about night skiing, or day before, but schlepping all the shmottas, skis, and boots; or renting drekk at the resort? Prolly skip it.

Traveling with ski equipment and a fencing bag. Talk about an airline's extra-fee dreams come true!

(On the other hand, I could see a definite perk for the refs here.)

See the main tabernacle....the acoustics in there are amazing!
Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

I can't believe I didn't think of this idea beforehand. Flying Southwest, coaching on Fri & Sun.

Any SLC locals know where the best place to spend a Saturday would be? I'm into interesting terrain -- glades, chutes and moguls, and could care less about apres-ski or big wide groomers. I'm guessing Alta and Snowbird will be packed, are there any places which might be overlooked?

Alta is always kinda empty in my limited experience. So what are you doing flying the skis, boots, and schmottas?

My stuff's all "packed powder" (East Coast euphemism for "ice") gear anyway. So I might just travel with boots and rent skis from a demo shop. In my experience, if something doesn't feel right, they're usually happy to tweak the bindings or swap for a different pair of skis. Not perfect, but I'm not quite Bodie Miller.

So here's hoping for a Friday night blizzard...

Great idea = may be my Wife is right and I am lost without her. So - how'd you get from SLC to Park City it's about $40 each way on a shuttle?

BTW - free lift ticket is only for Deer Valley, ParkCity, or Canyons. I'm thinking Deer Valley - the run that was MS in 2002 Olympics - sorry - just sounds way too cool.

Oh and of course - thanks Oiuyt.

3 questions remain for my peace of mind :

    1. Best way to get from SLC to a ski resort in Park City?
    2. Decent or better food close to the venue?
Italian for the "treasure", BBQ otherwise; am I risking my sanity with sushi?
    3. How's the neighbourhood around the venue, Hilton, etc?

Thanx so much in advance for any input; isn't one of the F-Dad's from SLC?

Shuttle or rental car. No public transportation.

I'll try to put together a list, but for now there's a great sushi place, Takashi, at 18 W. Market St., about 2 blocks from the venue.

    3. How's the neighbourhood around the venue, Hilton, etc?

    Safe and boring.

Thanks so much, your answer is extremely helpful - looking forward to your list.

Guess I should check with the Hotel in regards to the shuttle?

As far as Dads, IIRC there are "Fencing", "Foil", and "F." ones, not to mention "Fencerswallet" which essentially is the same nom de plume - so my apologies.

I don't believe any SLC hotels run shuttles to PC. There are a few private shuttle companies but they're pretty pricey. It's probably cheaper to rent a car.

If the question was 'Things to Do in SLC When You're Dead' I'd say go for the posthumous Mormon baptism.

So I'm getting in at 4 tomorrow - no Park City resort seems to have night skiing - am I totally SOL?

Any advice on food close to the venue/Hilton?
