Outside of the Alex/Race/Lee/Nzingha's of US Fencing what is in the pipeline?

I heard and knew about Lee from the time she was maybe 12, and Nzingha when was 13-14(Atlanta SN06). So I hate to be a Debbie Downer here but my daugther is a senior and she is still fencing basically the same women that she's fenced since she was 11-12 years old and since US Fencer tend to have a shelf life that ends at about 22, or roughly one Olympiad/two World Championships and a World University Games, should be hearing about the next hot Y-12/y-14 phenoms. So, who are the designated chosen ones to carry that mantel.

Part of the reason we heard about that generation when they were so young was that they were making results in much higher categories at those ages, and part of the reason they could do that was that the previous generations were much weaker. Now with a very strong current generation of juniors and young seniors, the current Y12/Y14/cadets have a much harder time of it in those categories. Combined with normal random fluctuations between generations, that means that we may not see similar results to what the current foil squad had for another several years.

There are younger kids making results now as well.... Check the rankings.. You have at least one girl foilist who got her A last year at age 12. 10 year olds making syc y14 finals and earning letters in both boy and girl foil. In Y10 men's foil two kids qualified for JOOs.

Didn't a cadet fencer (granted the #1 ranked cadet fencer) beat Tim Morehouse at the last NAC?

"We hear" about things mainly in junior and senior. So if a Y14 or cadet wins a Div 1, indypacers will designate him as a chosen one, but he won't do the same for a Y10 winning a Y14. And, in foil, nobody seems to be doing the former, which was my point.

Ahh Mr. Epee Do you mean that little stars do not need a special training camp since God already loves them?

Meetings' agenda, accompanying documentation, and tons of thought provoking accutrimon

frankly "Future Stars" is small spring potatoes in comparison with with various "pearls".

BTW - Craig - with all of due respect and understanding - are you planning to report from the meetings; secretarial recap can be quite dry and pointed only to resolved issues?

I wonder what (or who) inspired the detailed "massage" policy?

The USFA seems to spend a great deal of time and effort concocting plans to protect its nether-regions. This type of paranoid behavior, although I'm sure endorsed by USFA legal counsel, takes resources away from things that could help the majority of the membership.

Those of you who are not attorneys, as well as the USFA BoD, may feel that the institution of such compliance policies will immunize the USFA from legal action. That is not the case. If a "victim" wishes to sue, protest to the USOC, or make life very difficult for the USFA regarding sexual abuse, no amount of "advance planning" on the part of the USFA will provide protection.

All of this is true, but lack of a written policy would show negligence on the part of US Fencing, perhaps even gross negligence. I also assume that in light of some problems with other NGB's, the USOC is requesting written policies in place.

Of course; that is the reason for the compliance policy. My point is that most organizations don't realize that the fact that a policy being in place is not a panacea. In fact, in can actually increase your risk of liability. The more comprehensive and complex the compliance guidelines, the more possibilities that something will have been missed, which in fact, may open up more ways to find the NGB negligent. In the legal world, this is known as the "compliance paradox."

Craig---like your article on the homepage. $1,000 a person to build comraderie amongst Y14 fencers. Plus Disney. Wonder what metrics will be used to determine if this program really works. As you note, another brilliant innovative initiative from our ED.

You and I know that (just as it is with all things Disney) this isn't for the benefit of the "children;" it's for the money.
