Array I hear that there was a PIL call made a few years ago that everyone agreed with, but only one light was involved. "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -

Nope. Pil impacted on the surface.
The one that got through was AiP. Some kids, when you meet him you just know you're not going to like his mother. ~Maurice Sendak -

The one that got through was AiP. No, NO, No, the AiP was illegally performed by an OBSERVER (H. Solo) who somehow manager to avoid the black card and was through some strange twist of fate awarded a medal anyway at the end of the competition.... How this was worked out in the paperwork is beyond me.... "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."

Array Check out some of the video footage of Golubitsky fencing foil and you will see that he gets PiL (sometimes) I think in a bout against Zenarro -

Array Great. Everyone can make snarky comments about point in line. Can anyone at least attempt to give an answer for (2) in the original post? -

Who fencers ambling into each other with PIL should really consider if fencing is for them.
Less snarky but no less ridiculous. The point goes to the person who first established the line.

My opinion -- just an opinion, mind you -- is that it doesn't matter who established PIL first, since they both had it. I see it as follows:
1. If one fencer (call her X) was stationary or moving backward, and fencer Y advanced or lunged onto X's point in line, then touch for X.
2. If both fencers moved forward -- "meandered" -- onto the other's PIL, then it's simultaneous stupid attacks, and no touch. -

IIRC (and I may not) the last time this question was asked on this forum the answer was that neither fencer gets the touch. This seems to be to be supported by the rulebook, as it only mentions that point in line has right of way against an attack that started after the line was established.
In a practical sense I don't think it's a big deal either way though; it's not a touch you're going to see very often at all. -

Array Answer would be dead easy if the OP had called them fencers X and Y instead of A and B, as X is like the red-shirted crewman on Star trek landing parties. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! Similar Threads -
