repeated difficulty with FRED

Has anybody else experienced difficulty getting on FRED lately?

Two weeks ago, I was in a panic trying to download FT entries for a tournament and just kept getting nowhere.

Last night and today again, after a very long time, I get an almost blank screen on FRED that just says "Regional Edition".

Is Fred "down" on a regular basis for updates or whatever?

Maybe Peet was doing a pre-emptive black out in response to SOPA/PIPA.

I *should* try to claim I was blacking out FRED in protest of SOPA/PIPA, but the truth is:

Twice in the past week and a half, FRED has had a several hour long outage in the early AM due to the database server "blocking", so that it serves no queries. I believe I have found the cause (a misbehaving backup job), and have suspended the suspect job pending further investigation.

Apologies for the inconvenience FRED's users experienced.
