I remember the good old days, just a few years ago, when two fencers could stand 8 yards apart and stare at each other for 2-3 minutes without worrying about the shot clock. Or, as I like to call it, the "death clock."

I will be switching to foil now, since clearly epee is already foil, if part of epee is no longer a mutual agreement to stare at the floor while the clock runs down for awhile. (I do both foil and epee now, but from now on, given the opportunity to fence epee I will fence foil instead).
