Prup, I get arguments all the time. I usually just restate my call, and wait. I try not to pull the "I'm an expert" card unless I run into someone that just won't listen. Mostly, the noob's coach or athlete will pull them aside, for a whispered conversation!

It's always good for a laugh!

Heh....similar to the fun of watching a noob think he could take Don Benge just because he looked older than dirt, never mind that Don was fencing when God had His learner's permit!

It was always fun to watch Don beat his own record for how fast he killed the new guy!
Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

If I'll argue with Derek Cotton I'll argue with anyone.
Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!

I will make a plug for our club: Denver Fencing Center. If you want to do foil, we usually have 20-30 foil fencers on Tuesday and Thursday and also a fair amount on Wednesdays nights. All ages and all abilities. Our epee program is as extensive and usually has the same population on Monday and Wednesday nights.

As for Vet fencing, we had 5 fencers who fence at DFC that won National medals in a 3 weapons in December at the Kansas City NAC. I don't think anybody would argue that we easily have more Vet fencers than any other club in Colorado.

There is a reason that we have expanded to 20,000 sqf. in January.

Go look at http://www.coloradofencing.net. There is a complete list of clubs in Colorado, and you can get a map, contact numbers, etc. for all of the clubs in and around Denver.

My suggestion is that you try out a couple of the clubs, talk to the coaches, and find a place that fits you. Not every club is for every individual, and finding one that meets your needs, and has the kind of environment you are looking for will make a huge difference in your ability to succeed.
