A short appreciation and obituary: William Gaugler I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it before, but Bill Gaugler passed on Dec. 10 in California. The most prominent representative of an earlier age of competitive fencing, he managed to pull off something few others can aspire to: Writing the definitive textbook on the Italian method of fencing... as an American.
