    Watching Youtube Videos

I remember that at my first competition a family that my mom became friends with over the course of the tounament often gave me advice. Mainly just general stuff and not really skills or anything like that because their daughter fenced foil and I fence sabre (yes i know my name is foil-luver.....deal with it). Anyway I remember the father telling me to watch fencing videos on youtube. I had been watching some before he asked me to, but only because they were interesting. Now that I'm looking at them and focusing on actual actions and skills I was wondering which are better to watch. The ones of like teenagers that their parents decided to post or am I better off looking at the senior videos from the FIE official youtube page. Then there are Cadet, Junior, and Senior videos as well. There is that Cyrus of Chaos person who posts really good videos, and I've seen almost everyone video from the 2010 cadet and junior world championships. I was also wondering if while watching these videos should I be looking for anything in particular? Or just try to soak it all in as much as possible.

Watch pro video. You can look for specific actions or tactics if you like, or you can just watch it and see what hits you. It's okay if you don't see anything special.

Don't worry about watching parent's film of teens unless you have a specific reason for watching it.

I'd also add it would help if the vid has a good view of the ref so you can see the calls being made, especially if the lights aren't visible. Cyrus' videos are always a good thing to watch.
Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

On the personal info form I had to fill out for the top 8 in Kansas City, I listed Cyrus of Chaos' videos as one of my coaches.

It can also be a useful exercise to watch videos of the world's best fencers to study what they do well, then watch videos of bad fencers to see how their fencing differs from that of the world's best. This exercise is particularly helpful if the bad fencer you're watching is yourself.

I find it's helpful to watch high end vets tournaments which are high level but tend to be a little slower and easier to.follow.

Is there any one person or a few people that I should look at in particular? I already watch a lot of videos with Mariel Zagunis fencing because she is my favorite fencer. But I'm a little worried that her bouts might not be helping me because they are so fast. Is it better for me to watch slower videos or just watch a lot of the world class fencers?

Does that matter? The question is which weapon do they fence. What's confusing is the username is 'foil-luver' and they like to watch Saber fencing. Watching high-level foil fencing might make more sense.
Right-of-way doesn't matter if there is a single light.

When I made my username I was fencing foil. I've switched to fencing sabre and obviously haven't changed my username.

Yes, it does matter. Quite a bit. The male sabre game is fenced very differently from the female sabre game. No point in devoting all her efforts into studying all she can about the male version, when what will be more useful to her is studying the female version.*

    * That's not to say there's no point in watching the other gender's game, as more all-round knowledge can be very useful indeed.

watch any sabre fencing, mens and womens, the higher level the better. mens fencing is just a bit faster so whatever you learn from men, just slow it down a bit to apply it to womens. the important thing to watch for is the distance that the two fencers keep, pretty much all of fencing is a distance game: trying to find a distance that is comfortable for you while trying to make your opponent as uncomfortable as possible. my favorite bouts are the ones where one fencer destroys another. here are a few really good bouts. the second one might be particularly of interest since velikaya typically beats mariel pretty consistently these days
