Could you tell me why this is a horrible glove?
I have the negrini grip glove and love it. -

Array I bought this glove, and I washed it and it still smelled bad. I washed it several times in a row, with detergent and all, and it still did not smell good. The glove also ripped very quickly, and the grip on the glove was meh at best. The ACG Washable glove by Blue Gauntlet is much better than the Negrini Alcantra, Allstar Gripstar, and all other gloves I have tried. Then again, I fence epee, and my glove is a target and was hit occasionally. I am not sure if that part helps or has a huge impact on the glove's overall performance, but I've had the ACG Washable glove by Blue Gauntlet for a very long time now and it is so far the most trusted glove in fencing according to many other fencers. -

I agree with you on the point where you dislike many cheap products and all BG products, but with the exception of this glove. I had the same opinion at first, I thought "Oh, it's Blue Gauntlet, it's probably not as good as my Allstar Gripstar" but once I tried it, I was pleasantly surprised. I oblige you to just try it, you don't have to agree with me. It held up much better than the Negrini Alcantra, which is the topic of this thread. -

Array DM knows his stuff, and I find it hard to believe the BG glove is any good. I've seen them in the store, and was not impressed. That said, I check them mor closely again next time I am in.
I was not impressed with the Negrini Alcantra, although I absolutely love their leather one (at least when fencing french grip where I can control the covering for grippy-ness). Glove/grip is really important to me, so I am pretty picky. I'm not 100% happy with anything out there.
One thing about equipment is that you really can't judge it until you are fencing really good people. Other than that, the performance differences don't matter. Fencing monsters often is the only time to really see flaws that may not be apparent against mere mortals. It's a generic washable leather made in Pakistan glove, it's fine for a club glove to loan out to beginners, but it's not a high end glove. And the cuff really is crap.

I just have to try on various gloves and see what I like. I know someone who raves about some tight padded glove; I tried it on and hated it. Then you have to look at it and say, ok, it feels good, but how much does it protect my hand from a penetrating hit?

With gloves especially I think it's important to think about worst-case; the cheap gloves with synthetic leather palms and knit fabric backs feel nice but are a menace if you fence fg epee, I had an unbroken epee go through one a couple of years ago and scrape along the back of my hand, that could have been really bad at the wrong angle. And I think someone out here posted a picture of his hand after an unbroken epee went through what I think was the same type of glove and punched a hole in the skin between his fingers. I see a lot of gloves for sale at NACs I wouldn't fence with, just too thin and too much light fabric between the fingers and on the back of the hand.
