Array Olympic Fencing Just curious, what is the probability of a fencer qualifying for the Olympic Games? Like, 1 in __. -

Array Are you talking about all fencers, members of the USFA or other national body. There is a lot of difference. Compare it with a World Championship. In many of the events, you might have over 200 fencers. At the Olympics, you are limited to 48 for those that have teams. In other words, all things being equal, you are 4 times more likely to compete at a Worlds, then at the Olympics. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array I'm just talking about USFA members. Is there a certain number I can fill in? Thanks for reading my undoubtly weird question! -

Array That makes the question impossible at this time. Now there are restrictions for the total number of fencers for the competition. It used to be there was a maximum for the country. Right now, we don't know how many Olympians we will have. For each team we have that qualify, we will have 3 fencers, but what if they don't qualify. Then the MAXIMUM is 2, but we may have 1 or none. So we could have anywhere from 0 - 16 fencers. Last Olympics it was 9 out of a possible 15. So which figure do we use? That is a large range. At a World Championship, we will usually take a full team of 24, sometimes a few less, but never as low as 16. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

A snow ball's chance in hell??
Between slim and none??
When Pigs fly??
When hell freezes over??
When pointy weapon fencers get along with the true fencers as in the one's that fence Saber??
When dachshunds quit barking??
When Bush gets a brain??
Darn the number is small, 1 in a ?? Indeed. A friend will bail you out of jail,
a true friend will help you hide the body...: ) -

Who knows, maybe Bush also needs courage, AND wants to get back to Kansas (er, Texas) too. He should see the Wizard. Similar Threads -
