| The Italian forges (at least historically) have had smaller tangs then the French forges. If the hole is to big for those tangs, then you have the problem of the connector shifting. You can always make the whole bigger as you are doing, but you have a little more difficulty making it smaller. Why they had the smaller tang, I am not sure.
