hey like linkin park? check out their new album meteora due to drop march 25th and listen for thier new song "somewhere i belong"...
I'm going to see them two Tuesdays from now - I get to hear the various new music a week before the CD comes out!!

I also saw 3 Doors Down in concert (it will be a month ago on the day of Linkin Park) - awesome show.

Anyone else see any decent concerts recently?

erm Lets see...

I'm going to see Opeth on Friday they're pretty good - seen 'em before. If you like your Metal doomy (al la Paradise Lost - early days) then check 'em out.

I recently saw a band called Torqamada. They're a little local band but they're great! They're all about 15 and have obvious;y been locked in their dads garage with his collection of Motley Crue and the Wildhearts for far too long. They have the arrogance, the swagger and the 'lip' to be a hige glam band sometime soon. Excellent see 'em if they ever tour abroad (they're touring with Amen currently).

On April 6th I should be in London for ElectroFest - an all day celebration of all things Electronica (or somehing like that). Covenant are playing and they write excellent tunes! Can't remember who else will be on the bill but there should be plenty for me to see.

I think I saw an article on ZZ Top in a history book. Right next to a record, and a black and white photograph of an 8-Track!

This story is about Limp Bizkit, a profane and vile band which I despise, even if the music is similar to Linkin Park, a band with lyrics that are not sexual or violent, nor at any point even remotely profane.

Aside: Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park have very similar music and styles. Their lyrical content, however, is very much different: Limp Bizkit glorifies sex, violence, and the general "I'm-cool-and-you-suck" kind of message that I despise in music. Linkin Park is just depressed and sometimes angry; they refrain from any profanity whatsoever in their music. This is why I like Linkin Park and not Limp Bizkit. The connection is shaky, I suppose, but there it is.

I'm going to assume that you're very young ...

1. I have listened to Metal since I was 10 years old. In fact I was raised on a heavy diet of Black Sabbath et al prior to my choosing my prefered musical genre.

2. I know who Linkin Park are.

3. They suck.

4. I know who Limp Bizkit are.

5. They also suck!

6. My comment was intended to be sardonic...

As for your aside. I know fully what/who these bands are/sound like. I don't really care what your stance on music is however ...

The Bizkits and LP have a similair sound because they have as much rock 'n' roll cerdibility as my cats [if you knew them you'd understand]. Profanity/sexual references have and hopefully always will be part of music. Why would anyone want to listen to sanitised AOR bollox? Listening to Rock 'n' Roll - specifically Metal in this context - has always been about rebelling, about being different, these bands are about conforming. It's ok to like them, don't get me wrong, but please don't make a comment like the one above unless you plan on a career in comedy.

If you want to listen to decent music [and personally I don't care about posturng - some of these bands are trying to commiunicate something more important]:

Godflesh
Pitchshifter (upto the rather excellent www.pitchshifter.com as everything produced after sucks)
Prong
Faith No More [these guys are great]
Fear Factory
Slayer

There are others I could list for you if you wish.

Happy listening!

Hmm..

To drag the tread back into "friendly land"- There's always going to be arguments when someone mentions musical taste.

Who've I seen recently?

Cannibal Corpse, Opeth, Arch Enemy, CoF, Rammstein...

Speaking of gigs, anyone in the UK going to Downoad Festival? Might not be your bag of rope, gav, but it'll be a giggle probably. 50 bands over a weekend for about £90 (minus camping)

I may old out for Ozzfest.

Just waiting for some decent gigs though.

Am I rambling?

Hey Steve!

I don't know are you rambling?

I was at the Opeth gig on Friday in Glasgow. They were great!

I'm not going to Download however I will be in London for the 1st weekend in April for Elektrofest (6th April) and No Mercy fest (8th April).

PS. Guys I don't think I was being too nasty - apologies to the board if they think that I was.

JPF: I know that you are "done with this thread" however I would have welcomed some sarcastic comments about Slayer. I have a sense of humour and am not averse to making such comments myself.
