| Duke vs UNC Our webmaster is a UNC graduate, and I attended Duke for residency and fellowship. Any others in the forum. Predictions for the game at Chapel Hill this Sunday.
Duke 78 - UNC 62
I wish they had a healthy Sean May to make it competitive. |

| This is another down year for Carolina basketball, but everyone should get up for the UNCvDuke game and Doherty knows that winning vs. Duke is very important to the boosters.
Still, Duke plays good perimeter defense and UNC has no consistent inside option, so Duke still wins, but by 10 or less.

| Indeanna nadive-Americans formed a basis for goodhigh-standard basketball. For why?Yes it was a sport invented by the nadive-Americans (Indian>>Indeanna) And besides the brichyard IndiannApolis Automobile races there is top-quality basketball of all varieties.

| It was a nice surprise. Now, if they play like that all next year, I'll be a very happy fan.
Next up: Maryland at the ACC Tourney.
Cheers,

| Hey there buddy,
Basketball was invented by a Canadian way early last century. The guy invented the game as a cross training technique to better train his athlete's.
Of course the American's have turned it into the fast paced, exhilerating, and famous sport it is today. It's a shame we are not as fanatical about it at a Varsity level.
P.s. - get off the pot! Your words are muddled. I can barely understand you. |

| James Naismith was teaching physical education at the Young Men's Christian Association Training College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and felt discouraged because calisthenics and gymnastics didn't engage his students. What was needed was an indoor wintertime game that combined recreation and competition. One evening he worked out the fundamentals of a game that would quickly catch on. Two peach half-bushel baskets gave the name to the brand new sport in late 1891. Basketball: Its Origin and Development was written by the inventor himself, who was inspired purely by the joy of play. Naismith, born in northern Ontario in 1861, gave up the ministry to preach clean living through sport. He describes Duck on the Rock, a game from his Canadian childhood, the creative reasoning behind his basket game, the eventual refinement of rules and development of equipment, the spread of amateur and professional teams throughout the world, and the growth of women's basketball (at first banned to male spectators because the players wore bloomers). Naismith lived long enough to see basketball included in the Olympics in 1936. Three years later he died, after nearly forty years as head of the physical education department at the University of Kansas. http://www.barnard.columbia.edu/amst...all/origin.htm

| Sorry, didn't make it clear, the link was not the source of the quoted text. The text I included is the publisher's note for the book of which the link is an extracted portion detailing Naismith's account of creating basketball.

| That's right.
And your country the US is going to war cause of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. (which no one can find.) And there are Al Queda operatives there also...(which American history shall record, but noone else.)
And your country initially won the American Revolution....(The US continental whatever surrendered six weeks prior to independence in Britain.).
Oh well. When your the world's richest, strongest country, I guess you can write your own history. You can have Brian Adam's as well if you wish!

| Actually,
I am reading the headline of this thread, and asking what the hell am I doing?
I apologize for any rude remarks, or ranting. In the greater scheme of things....basketball is fun, athletic, and a well thought out sport.
End of comments on this thread for me.

| Getting back on topic here...
I didn't go to Duke, but since I marched with the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps (back when I had hair), I always root for Duke! |

| Back to the topic. I conceded that Duke lost at Chapel Hill, but later, manslaughter the Tar Heels at the ACC Tournament Final. Duke is heading to the West at the NCAA bracket and the Heels would be at NIT. Sean May (a tall UNC player that plays the post with ability) came back after a foot fracture injury. He looked rusty at the ACC final but was able to make the score more respectable. The Heels will be better than expected at the NIT tournament, and next year is going to be a very tough conference with improved teams for Georgia Tech, NC State, and Duke. Maryland is graduating 5 seniors. |

| When I was at UNC we kept alive an undefeated record against Duke's fencing team (50-0 at the time). 2 years after I left was UNC's first dual meet loss to Duke. |
