    Deals on Arlington area hotels

Any fencers, parents, refs, groupies still looking for Arlington area hotels might find Captain Kirk and his Priceline enterprise useful. (a.k.a. priceline.com) . . .

I know the details of 3 winning Priceline hotel bids of people headed to the NAC:

A bid for $52 per night for a "3 star" or better hotel in the "Arlington - Grand Prairie" zone got a room at the Hilton Arlington.

A bid for $38 per night for "2.5 star" or better in the "Arlington - Grand Prairie" zone got a room at the Amerisuites Grand Prairie.

A bid for $39 per night for "2.5 star" or better in the "Arlington - Grand Prairie" zone got a room at the Amerisuites Arlington.

Since you bid on areas and star levels, not specific hotels, all the bids specified *only* "Arlington - Grand Prairie" for the zone to get something close to the action. All three of the properties above look to be within 3 miles of convention center.

Oh and by the way ... while the "US Fencing Rate" is $95 per night at the "official" hotel, the Wyndham Arlington, the AAA rate at the same place is $80.

The Wyndham is next door to the convention center.

Hmm, they told me it was a discount off their highest price, which made it $125. Did they tell you differently, and if so, what did you ask?

The USFA rate of $95 is listed on the NAC site at http://www.fenceintexas.org/2003_nac_f/lodging.htm It's past the deadline for that rate, but it doesn't matter since it wasn't a very good rate anyway.

Reservations at $80 AAA rate at the Wyndham can be booked via the Travelweb hotel booking site at http://www.travelweb.com

And a quick check of the Wyndham.com website shows there's even a lower rate of $69 per night available under the "Wyndham Webrates" program. Rooms booked at those "webrates" require pre-payment and are non-refundable:

    WYNDHAM ARLINGTON DFW SOUTH HOTEL
    1500 Convention Center Drive
    Arlington, TX 76011

DELUXE, NON-SMOKING, 1 KING BED, COFFEEMAKER, IRON AND IRONING BOARD, DAILY USA TODAY NEWSPAPER, ON COMMAND VIDEO, HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following rate plans are available for this room.
Please click on the rate to book the room.
    Rate Plan Rate Amount
    (Click to book) Rate Information
WYNDHAM WEBRATES 69.00 US DOLLAR Daily
MUST BE BOOKED WITHIN 21 DAYS OF ARRIVAL ONLY-NON REFUNDABLE
    ARLINGTON DFW TAX (13%)

The hotel business is hurting, so people can take advantage of the conditions and save some money. And then perhaps spend their savings on fencing equipment
