True. NCAA Regionals and Championships frequently conflict with Senior World Cups. It will be interesting to see how many top fencers, in the year or two after the Olympics choose NCAA events instead of World Cups. Teams with competitive seniors need depth. Will recruiting be negatively impacted by having a top senior on the roster (I will never fence with them in front of me, I will go elsewhere)?
Well, it doesn't seem to have affected MF at UND--they have enough starters for all the NCAA programs combined.

True, it does not impact the recruiting of competitive fencers, in fact I think it helps. Just look at this years cluster of weapons disciplines at certain schools. I think in order to stay sharp programs that recruit those on the international track will need to have stablemates that challenge them. Most good teams will have a number of interchangeable pieces so the fall off isn't that great when a fencer drops out to do a WC versus an NCAA regional/championship. ND & PSU seem to handle that situation well.

On the other hand, the past few years it's hurt Columbia pretty significantly.

No, that is not Greg's strategy. The idea is for Turner and Alex to get a great education, while staying close to their coach. Part of that plan is a deal (at least for Alex) to fence all necessary World Cups regardless of NCAA "obligations." Stanford will need quite a few more quality fencers in many weapons before seriously challenging for the NCAA overall championship.
I'm planning on posting an updated summary of all of the names/schools next week right before I leave for the JOs. So if anyone has any further names, please post them here by Tuesday of next week. Please post full names (not just first initials), school, and weapon.
As promised, here's the latest summary of which fencers may be attending which colleges this coming fall. In March this list will expand greatly as the regular crop of college acceptances are sent out.
When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps:
ME: Kevin Mo, Jake Harbour, Kian Ameli? They can all beat you any day of the week
MF: Turner Caldwell who is awesome, and Jonathan Lee is pretty good too
WE: Francessa Bassa
It's not Princeton or Ohio State but it's a respectable program
They just need to have one or two good recruiting years and their program is gonna be looking very good.

Of the four teams in the Western Region, they are good. In any other region they'd be below average.
They almost beat OSU in ME, and they beat ND in ME and in MF. You're right, the team overall isn't very good, it was my mistake to have set that, but the ME and MF teams for Stanford are very good
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
