| If you were able to only train X hrs/wk, what to do? If you were able to only train X hrs/wk, what would you do?
Assume that you only have X hours per week to exercise and learn/practice fencing. How would you divide the routine?
To increase precision of the discussion (rather than a bar rambled discussion), there are 3 large categories of X.
a) 3 hrs/week - (casual)
b) 9 hrs/week - (semi-competitive)
c) > 15 hrs/week - (competitive)
Example (epee):
9 hours (3 hours x 3 times per week)
Lessons - 0.5 hr x 2 = 1 hr
Free fencing bouts - 0.25 hr x 12 = 3 hrs
Study bouts - 0.25 hr x 8 = 2 hrs
Footwork strips - 0.25 hr x 6 = 1.5 hrs
Streching and aerobics - 0.25 hr x 3 = 0.75 hrs
Lift weights - 0.25 hr x 3 = 0.75 hrs
Notes
0.25 = 15 min
0.5 = 30 min Free fencing bouts: bouts against opponent of better or same fencing level/expertise. The goal is to win and the score counts. Study bouts: bouts with the purpose of executing a specific action a greater number of times. It could also be bouts againsts fencer of inferior level where you mix practice and bouting from behind in the score.
What do you guys think?
There are some out there that take every bout as a matter of death or life regardless of whether you are trying to improve one aspect of your technique. After all, the competition is against yourself! |
