    Hoping for some updates/help.

    Hi all.

I have been away from here for a while due to the fact that the club I was attending/coaching at closed down. I seem to always have to stop fencing for some reason or other but now I have been asked to 'coach" at a local high school. Have there been any major rule changes in the last couple years? I am by no means a coach, just someone with a wee bit of experience willing to pass it on to others. I would love to get some training/coaching myself ( so I could be a better coach and fencer ) but the nearest place to me ( live in the desert north of Los Angeles ) would be Pasadena or LA itself. I don't have the time to do a 3 hour round trip due to work committments and the fact I sleep during the day! There are never any clinics/classes nearby here so I am at a loss as to how to better my coaching abilities even though I am only teaching basics. Any suggestions??? I remember a member (MdA? ) sent me some info but for some reason I cannot access any of my old messages. Is there an online study guide that anyone knows of?

I would really like to stay in fencing this time but with my limited knowledge of coaching, and lack of fencing resources where I am, I am not sure how to progress.
I would really appreciate any help/advice from anyone.

    Thanks

    David

If your not sure about rules check the handbook.

As to being a better coach... Maybe watch some fencing video? Did you check the usfa club listing for your area, just to be sure? If you have a good understanding of fencing, then you could turn to coaches of other sports for direction. At the very least you could steal basic conditioning exercises from them.

That's all I got dude, good luck.

The rules book is a far better resource for rules than the handbook.
