Those Annoying Little Screws Lately, the set screws in my tip keep poping out. I tighten them, but after a lesson and a couple of energetic bouts, they one or both pops out, and my tip flies off.
Sometimes it seems that the threads in the tip are stripped.
But my basic question is, what can I do - are there any tricks - to keep these damn little screws in place? Of course I tighten them when I put them in, but they still loosen awfully fast.
Help,
Sincerely,
Screw Loose JsPierre

Hi!
This works for epee, at least. Is not legal for competition, but lessens problems during training.
Put a small piece of tape around the tip barrel, covering both screws. Push the tip in a few times, and it will slide just as easily as usual. Remember to take of tape before comp.
Have a nice time!

If you are using German Epee tips their screws of late has been thin on thread
Thank goodness! I thought it was just me putting them in wrong! It's never happened before, but I went through three in one week! New tip, so it shouldn't be stripped already... -

Hello, Ye Olde. By the way, what is "locktie"? Is this some brand name of glue? JsPierre

Array Is it just a color difference or also adhesiveness, durability, etc... -
Just use a propane torch, and melt the screws into the barrel. That way, the tip will never become loose... ever . Don't dya thinking melting the screws is a good idea, Veeco? Ah, ha ha haaaa. -

Array Another solution is to buy Leon Paul screws. They cut thier screws with a "class A" fit rather than "class B", meaning the threads are sharp and not rounded. The (Genuine) Leon Paul screws- in my experience- tend not to loosen so often or so much.
I think you could get these from American Fencers, but since I have been using Scherma-sport tips I have not bought screws.
