How quick did you guys get a rating Hi everyone. I've been fencing for exactly a year now and have been to about four competitions, each time I did horribly
(never getting past my 2nd DE) anyway, I was wondering how everyone else did after a years experience and how
quick they were able to get a rating, just for comparisons.
And I know ratings aren't important, but they are a goal to work towards.
Thanks -

Array I've been going over 25 years and never gotten a rating. Mainly cos I don't fence in the US. The Stalwart Panda

Thanks Comparing your "progress" based on ratings achieved over elapsed time without taking into account, number of hours spent practicing, lessons, competitive bouts, etc. seems like not a great idea. For my kid, elapsed time from first lesson to E was 7 mos., to D was 11 mos., to C was 19 mos., to B was 20 mos., to A was 32 mos. -

Array I fenced 35 years before earning my D, but when I started ratings were more limited than now. A year or so later I earned my B, which degraded, re-earned and degraded again. Although a year or so ago I was one touch away from regaining the B, I haven't pushed, because it limits me from competitions without giving me a really big seeding edge.
Focus on getting the next touch, and worry about ratings when you have the medal around your neck. -

Array I've been fencing for 5 years now, I think? I started in high school, anyway.....
I got my E in epee last year at divisionals, I was actually in practice at the time and had a awesome good day, made top 8 after seeding twelve and beating both the 21st seed and the 5th seed. I lost to the 4th c. Mostly because I was tired cause I'd never gone past winning a second de. Now I know I need to include endurance training in my work out. Or at least more Tigre cola. Just remember folks, children in the backseat cause accidents, and accidents in the backseat cause children. -

I don't know whether to be impressed that you kept that sort of precise track, or appalled. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array I chased my epee classification for exactly two years before I earned it a little bit ago. Came close several times (including 2 points away from jumping straight to a 'C') but just never seemed to be able to catch it. Oddly enough, I classified in foil (which is my secondary weapon and which I'd been doing for about a year) several months prior to finally getting my epee rating. It's all fun and games until someone loses a tip screw.
