Array Hurricane Irene vs. batten down the hatches!! http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at4...large#contents
Monitor general path/advisories here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml?
Major Hurricane status projected for Charleston landfall by 8am Saturday.
I work for the power company, in major storm restoration, so we're already prepping now.
Had people from two states scheduled to come to my fencing club to fence on Saturday, was planning to go fence out-of-state on Sunday. Next tournament won't be till mid-September.
Cliffs: Awesome fencing weekend, and probably my club practice/lessons this week, are hosed. -

Array You know, we move from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast, and look what happens! The damn things chased us out of Houston in '05 and now they all head up the east coast. Sheese. -

Array Here's the really bad news... California is predicted to be the next place in the Ring of Fire to be hit with a major earthquake of around 9.8-10.0. They have no plans at their nuclear power plants to deal with this type of emergency. The winds typically blow from the west to the east, meaning there's a possibility that the radiation can blow across the USA.
Who wants to place bets that the Tea Party will
a) Blame Obama
b) Claim that god is angry with them for electing a black president
c) All of the above. Hurrah for the Pirate King!
Hurrah for the Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King. -

Array Well, who is to say but that they would not be correct? Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Er I think you're overreacting: the nuclear plants in Calfornia are Pressure Water Reactors that will passively shut down in the case of a loss of power as the rods are held in by electromagnets (as opposed to Boiling Water Reactors like Fukashima).
edit: also why would it be versus? Similar Threads -
