    ratings

I'm sure this is another stupid beginner's questions, but if I don't ask I won't learn: Can somebody describe the fencing skill ratings system for me? I've seen letter/number combinations like b:02, a:03, e:05, ect. What is higher and lower? What is considered novice, good, expert, ect.? How do you get a rating? Is this a national or an international system? And any other information I may have not thought to ask on this subject. Thanks for any enlightenment you can share with me.

    That's the USFA rating system.
It goes A-E, A being the highest, E being the lowest rating. Without earning a rating you start off as a U.
The numbers after the letter are the year the rating was earned.
    Example, a few weeks ago I renewed my D again, going from a D02 to a D03.
If you don't renew your rating within 4 years it decreases to the next lowest. IE you were a C 4 years ago, but havent renewed it, you now become a D03.

given that I'm only 21 and a BIG Quantum Leap fan, I don't think you possibly dated yourself.

    Go here.

Classification is primarily about seeding for tournaments rather than absolute ability.

    Quantum Leap is awesome!

I used to watch it all the time! And I'm only 17. Is it still on at all?
