| Foil blades. Since i have never done sport fencing befor i have a quetion on foil blades. This guy at the club i fence at (sca fencers) told me that the reason you are allowed to attack so much harder(referring to the bend of the blade at the end of an attack, in SCA its supposed to be lightest touch)is that sport fencing blades are much more flexible and much thinner. I use a "number 5 olympic practice foil from dynamo" is this much less flexible than the blades used in sport fencing or is he bull****ting, cause he does that.
Thanks

| graphixaddict,
I have this land in FL, would you like to buy it?
Your leg is being pulled.
#5 is a standard blade for grown-ups.
Blades vary in flexibility. To test it, hold the blade with the wire side under your thumb, put the point on the floor, then push to find out how stiff or soft the blade is. Also look for how - read where - the blade bends: whether you like the way the blade bend is entirely up to your preference.

Graphix | Try to flick with it, if it bends really easily it's soft. But as you're a beginner you probably have a stiff balde.

| kini's suggestion is one.
Before you buy a blade, pick up a bunch of blades and do My "point on the floor and push" test. It'll gives you a better indication of the nature of the blade.
How stiff or how soft:
I think you'll have to apply Newton's third law of Motion:
For every force there is an equal and opposite force.
How much force did you apply to get the blade to bend?
where does it bend?
Does it bend at the place where you like it to bend?
Is it too stiff for you to do a flick?
Is it so soft that your opponent comes throught your parry?
etc.
Ask your coach or the seniors in your club.
