    Video Men's Epee from 2011 Championnats d'Euorope

Hey there, first post. I've been out of fencing for a year or two, and as I try to gear up for re-entering the circuit I find myself craving high level video.

Just thought I'd share what I found since coverage seems so sparse, especially in English. Hopefully this will give me good karma to find more video soon.

There are a few more on this guy's Vimeo. I'm not exactly sold on the editing here, but I'm so grateful for the effort ♥!

Also a bit of coverage on Ustream, but I found it unwatchable.
    DangerMouse and Sinestra like this.

If you want to pay for specific matches in better quality you can go here: https://www.247.tv/fencing/european-...ionships-2011/

I bought some belfast junior worlds footage off these guys a few years back and it was very respectable.

Ustream was atrocious during the event. I occasionally dipped in and had a look but I found it unwatchable too.

I heard that Adrian described his viewing figures as "big" for the event but I wonder exactly how big.

Anyone happen to have the bouts of either Verwijlen or Kardolus? I'm especially interested in the latter, seeing how he's a clubmate of mine. I assume they'll be on youtube by FIEvideo sooner or later, but still.

You need to go to https://www.247.tv/fencing/european-...ionships-2011/ and have a look. Not sure about Kardolus but if you look in the earlier section you should be able to find some of his bouts. You can certainly buy Bas's fights. And it's cheap.

Great seeing Arwin on the piste again even if everyone was saying "Oh! It's Arwin - how old is he again?"

Which makes it all the more amazing he got as far as he did. I think he was by far the oldest of the top 16 with 47 years old. I'll give the link a look, thanks!

This site rings the security bells on my browser. I went for it anyways out of my undying desire to watch amazing fencing, and I have problems. It asks me to add money to an account, but after doing so there is no money in the account. I have my doubts that anything will come of their complaint system.

Why am I paying anyways when the FIE has been posting videos for free? Everything about this is upsetting.

    A couple of things.

We're not the support team for that site. We're unlikely to be able to help you. Which browser? What errors? What are you using to pick up the errors? Contact their support team.

This isn't an FIE event - it's organised by the European Fencing Federation which is an affiliate group. So just because the FIE release some videoes for free doesn't mean everyone should. It was free to air. Storage costs. Why shouldn't they charge? And by the way it's not anything more than a nominal fee. You've got some entitlement issues if you don't understand that.

Edit: Ah, I think I know what the "error" you're getting is. Their SSL cert has run out and they've not renewed it. I'll drop them a line myself - you should do that too. Currently, the site is using a self signed cert which isn't good but not necessarily bad. It's annoying more than anything else.

    Thanks for your interest Gav.

I realise that this site has no affiliation with 247.tv. I related my troubles only out of interest in discussing the availability of high quality fencing video. I'm handling lodging my complaint and seeking the apropriate assistance just fine.

While this tournament may not have been administered by the FIE, the FIE youtube demonstrates the feasibility of making available free video on demand. That was the point I tried to make. They shouldn't charge if they don't have to. I would rather see the service supported by advertisement, or perhaps by spectator fees. I also think since fencing still has a low following in the english speaking world, investments like providing free video of competition will pay dividends in the future of the sport.

Regardless of the merits/demerits of the service, please refrain from insulting me. It's none of your business whether I have entitlement issues or not. I am a stranger to you, and this is a public discussion. Why address my character?

I was there, and I am happy to pay what is a nominal amount for several hours of quality video with expert commentary so that I can relive the experience at any time. I had no difficulty with payment.

You are demonstrating that, for your best interests, that the video be made free.

There are a number of problems with this. But I'll state again that the FIE is not the European Fencing federeation. It's funded differently for a start. Just because they release some (note - not all) video for free doesn't mean anyone else needs to or should. 247.tv have equipment costs, personnel costs, software costs, some of them will have wives and children to feed and yet you assert that they should forgo that in order that its funded by some nebulous means. I don't think you've really thought that through very well.

    WOOOHOOO!

Some support finally came through for me from 247.tv. It took a bit for them to get back to me, but it was pretty ok in the end, and I guess it was the weekend after all.

So I grabbed the set of video with the Men's epee finals. Great bouts! The final really was a nail-biter. Great presentation! I'm especially happy with the presentation, good lighting, good resolution, good camerawork, totally perfect. The commentary was pretty good, there's room for improvement in my eyes, but the announcers knew their stuff and the homework got done.

My sticking point: the packaging. I feel that the product woud be improved by selling the footage edited by event. I love the women's foil (Super hotties, and amazing athletes), it's just that it wasn't what I wanted to buy.

I hope everyone is watching, and holding their breath for Catania! It's and exciting time for fencing.

I also hope the wives and children of 247.tv staff are well fed ♥, LOL.
