Durability of silicone grip material on Fencing.net glove? Does anyone have any first hand (pun intended) experience with the gloves being blown out on the Fencing.net site? http://shop.fencing.net/product_p/fdn-22302.htm
Specifically, how long does the grip material last when mated with an uninsulated pistol grip?
We love the Uhlman grippy gloves, but it would be so awesome to find a glove that performs as well for 25% of the price!!! -

Array It's a pretty standard thickness on the grip webby material so it should last about as long as it lasts on other gloves. Gloves decay at different rates for different people and that's not a model that I personally use.

Array You might try silicone tape on the grip instead (unless you fence epee and use a pistol grip, in which case any tape would be illegal, 'cause you might be hiding a switch). That way, when the dots rub off, you'd still have that sticky grip.
The problem is the tape might make the grip too bulky for your hand. -

Array I just noticed, Craig, is that "A" new avatar?
Anyway, I used to use sticky gloves, but eventually switched to using friction tape on my grips...it's cheaper and more effective. The downside is that when the tape is fresh, handling the weapon sans glove leaves an annoying bit of "sticky" on the palm. -

Array I clicked on the hyperlink to check out the fnet glove, and I thought it looks cool. I enjoyed the description regarding the "typical fencers' hands." This fencing glove is suitable for all three weapons. (In sabre, you'll need an overglove for the cuff.) This glove offers improved grip over the standard fencing glove due to the use of a hexagonal pattern of silicon material which provides for a grippy surface. The glove is slightly wide in the fingers to accommodate the typical fencers' hands.
Extra material between the thumb and forefinger and at the tip of the index finger provide improved durability, especially for those fencers using a pistol grip.
The glove starts out a little stiff but works in. Over time it will stretch slightly.
Hand wash in cold water and drip dry for best longevity.
The only part missing is the note that the glove will not leave scuff marks on the floor when sabre fencers drag their knuckles on the way to the piste. -
After my initial post, I recalled that we had tried this particular glove in the past. We had problems with the little silicon hexagons peeling off after just a few uses.
The preferred glove right now is the Ulhman with the grippy nubbins on the palm. They seem to have a pretty good lifespan, but it sure would be nice to find a glove with the same feel and durability for something less than $50. Similar Threads -
