| Best fencing movie?
"The Duellists"
End of story.
The swordplay is simply outstanding. It is the most realistic theatrical fencing out there, and Ridley Scott captures the emotions felt by both parties.
However, the best part of the movie has nothing to do with fencing: If you do not shed a tear when Feraud (Keitel) is on top of the cliff, and the sun breaks through the clouds, you are not human.
It is one of the most beautiful scenes ever caught on film. |

I agree. One of the best, if not the best!
The movie really allows you feel their emotions. Good job Mr. Scott. But I did not shed a tear at the end. |

| Fisher & KBay,
Before I agree with you, have you seen 'Scaramouche'?
See it and decide again.

I was most interested in the fact that he uses a variation on a disarm from Dominico Angelo as a feint, then does a strange sort of estraņo from Spanish rapier with a bind for the final thrust. Utterly silly in the way that they were used and innapropriate in late 19th century foil, but I was surprised to see any reference to real historical fencing techniques. |

| hi all. i just read an actor, Leslie C. jumped from a window from a hotel. He was only 46 and played in many films [no swordfights that were mentioned], however, young, handsome and from Hong Kong, I almost thought it was Pk for a sec. glad to see you're still jabbering away. What a waste, I thought of Fixer Chow instantly as his next success. |

| The 'unstoppable thurst' was never referred to as such in the book. It was referred to as the 200-escudos thrust because of the cost of being taught it. The Fencing Master [his name currently excapes me] actually says to the girl that once you know it that it is really easy to parry and even taught her the parry against it. He deliberately kept the price to ensure that it remained exclusive and therefore effective. |

I have seen and read Scaramouche. While it is an enjoyable film, tis nothing compared to The Duellists. |

| Given the difference in the years between the time when the 2 fi,s were shot, I still think fencingwise 'Scaramouche is better than the Duelists.
Simple reason: the first time I saw Duekists I fell asleep. VERY SLOW development in the first half of the film.

| Fencing wise, Scaramouche is fun. In fact Scaramouche is sitting in my VCR right now. But the realism factor goes to The Duellists, which is more to my liking. I have watched The Duellists and Scaramouche an equal amt. of times. |
