| Try adding an underarm protector--you'll need one to compete anyway. Get one of the FIE high-newton ones...they're more flexible than the heavy cotton ones.
Some of the epeeists I know also add a foam/neoprene chest protector (even for guys) just to minimize the silver dollar poke bruises from long practices.
And if you're a sabrist, think about an elbow guard for practice...or sewing a long piece of neoprene inside your sleeve along the elbow area to soak up some of the hits.

| Definitely get an underarm protector/plastron. It's mandatory for competition (at least in USFA), and for safety. I know one individual who got a punctured lung while fencing without one. Accidents are rare, but make them rarer yet by wearing the right protective gear.
By all means, continue to wear your cotton T-shirt as well!

Is there some material that lets the moisture out - similar to gore tex? I mean something to wear as the layer closest to skin. Thanks |

| I always wear my 800N underplastron under my jacket, even at training, with an ordinary cotton shirt underneath that
