Nasty Injury

Hey folks,

I've suffered a bit of injury (I fell on a broken bottle, gashing my leg and partially severing tendon and muscle). Unfortunately, the hospital wasn't very good at telling me how long I should rest for. When I asked how long before I could return to fencing, they kind of just shrugged their shoulders.

Anyone have a similiar injury? Any ideas on what would be an appropriate rest period? It doesn't feel to bad after two weeks, and I'm itching to get back, but I don't want to risk returning too soon and causing more damage.

Ouch.

That said, I would really try to get a concrete answer out of them. Normally, a re-evaluation is required to determine how quickly you're healing. Best of luck in your battle with the administration!

Jeez Spanky that's nasty. Take it easy - talk to your doctor.

Lok after yourself.

I would suggest that you visit a doctor that specializes in sports medicine before you return to fencing. Regular doctors have some much to know that they often can not answer sport related questions like yours. Doctors who specialize in sports medicine will be able to look at your injury and give you a much better idea of how long until you should return to fencing. I would expect if you have tendon damage it will be at least 6-10 weeks before you will want to begin light fencing but I have no training and am only guessing.
