    Sorry,
But, I'm a new dad to this area. I will never be a world class fencer, but, I can help with the repairs of the equipment. where does one get info on schools. I have see info at USA fencing, but the link does not work. Can someone explain the different levels of mastery? Thanks for the help

There's no real school for armory. Armorer's College is geared toward certifying an armorer to be the head tech at certain event levels, but to learn the actual art....best way is to let us know what part of the country you are and we can refer you to an armorer willing to teach (and most of us are....takes the work load off of us!)
Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

Hmmmm....Houston. Mergs? Any suggestions? The only Texas armorer off the top of the head I know is Rocky, and you said he's basically out of the game now.

What part of Houston??? There are several of us. I live by Reliant Stadium, and work mostly independent. but there are armorers based in Clear Lake and Missouri City as well.

Most of us learned by trial and error. You are luck to have a some excellent armorers in the Houston area, also there are some pretty good reference materials available (see sig line for one of them) - Rudy Volkman's book, Chris Greene's, as well as Leon Paul's website. Good luck!

You'll see me at a lot of the local competitions, or one of my "partners in crime"- Feel free to come introduce yourself and set a spell....none of us have any problems answering them, or showing you how to do things. Will/are your kiddo fencing with Alliance? Andrey is actually a pretty fair armorer himself, as I understand it.
If your child will compete in the upcoming Division Qualifiers, I'll see you there!

You forgot one of the better ones out there, Mergs. "The Care and Feeding of All Things Fencing". I'd highly recommend adding it to your library.

Actually he didn't forget (or perhaps didn't you notice the reference to his sig line). He was merely mentioning some alternatives to his own work (which belongs among the reference library of any armorer).

There are also a couple of "how to" videos on the market for those who prefer something more graphic (Ted Li's "You Can Do It: Armoring" and the ABC "Armoring Basic Clinic" DVD). Unfortunately I don't see them listed on either FdN's or Absolute's web sites any more so a phone call may be needed to see if any copies remain in stock.

Many thanks to both of you for mentioning/reinforcing my reference. :-)

Hehehehe, I noticed, I assure you. I attended one of his clinics and picked up a copy of his book which he was offering for free with every paid purchase of his autograph.
