| Fencing 2000 and CAAFC Fencing 2000 in Chicago has ceased to exist. The members organized a not-for-profit club part of the Chicago Athletic Association, and the club is now known as the Chicago Athletic Association Fencing Club, CAAFC for short. All of the former coaches were hired. With no rent to pay, the club seems to have more resources to put into fencing programs. we'll see what the future holds for fencing in Chicago.

| I must say that I foresee great things.
Fencing 2000 - Diane = Bakhyt + friends
Sorry to say that it may the relative anonymity of the board that makes me willing to say so, but I always fenced at F2K despite Diane rather than because of her.
After my first time there, I had to be talked into going back because I felt that she was just unappealing to have an ongoing relationship with.
Maybe I'm off the wall, but I don't think that she was the best spokesperson for fencing in an area that could be an untapped vein. I think that Bakhyt will be great. The larger a part he plays in the Chicago fencing scene, the better.

| I talked with Matt Morich a bit at the Illinois Open this last Saturday. It sounds like the new facility, once remodeled, is going to be very nice (room for 6 full-width strips with adequate space between them-- much better than what F2K had for most of its existence), plus access to additional gym spaces to put on large tournaments, and all the other facilities at CAA. Combine that with retaining the core membership of F2K and Bakhyt and the rest of the coaches, and it does indeed look like a good set-up. I had to run practice and the beginners' course at my club today, otherwise I would probably have driven down to Chicago for their open-house. I look forward to my first visit to the new facility, and wish them the best of luck.

| So who's running CAAFC? What happened to Dianne and F2K? Did she retire? or did Bakhyt coup d'eta?
Anyhow, good luck to the Mattycam, Bakhyt and the new club. |

| Hey,
To everyone who had a chance to go to the Open House, thank you for your support. I realize the majority of people on here are not in the Chicagoland area, but those folks, thanks for checking out www.caafc.com
I also want to reiterate that EVERYONE is welcome at the CAAFC. I know in the past, some people may have gotten an unwelcome feeling when fencing at F2k, but I want to assure everyone that that will not be the case at the CAAFC.
Dave, I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to head down for the Open House. I was great success. We had more people than we expected and many not from F2K.
This especially goes out to the Mid-West Section fencers: When you come to CAAFC tournament, you not only get a chance to cash in on a steam and shower after the competition, you can also have a cocktail at our bar. If that doesn't speak to fencers, I don't know what does. No more, Mr. Stinkies!
If anyone has any questions regarding what we offer and scheduling, please feel free to hit up www.caafc.com .
See ya,
Matt |

| The CAAFC Just to let all the midwest fencers know, CAAFC will pick up all the tournaments that Fencing 2000 had originally scheduled except for the event on March 9th. Any of you who had stayed away from Fencing 2000 before because of the floors or for other reasons, should come by. We are located at 12 S. Michigan. Fencing is currently conducted in the Chicago Athletic Association's basketball gym on the fourth floor until the club is built out. The club should be built out in May.
Membership or other questions can be directed to Matt@CAAFC.com.
Come by and see, we'd love to have you there. |

| fencing2000 Great news!! Thanks to those who have made the transition possible. We fencers from Champaign really appreciate your work. We also appreciate the atmosphere you have established. We look forward to seeing you at your next event.
Any hints about parking, etc.
Thanks again, Michael Vitoux |

| CAAFC Parking I recommend parking at the Millenium Garage Parking lot across the street (by the ice rink, one block nort of the Art Institute). Cost is $10 for 12 hours. We are trying to negotiate a deal with a private garage. More on that as it becomes known. |

| Zoya! Did I hear correctly that Zoya A. finished 6th at J.O.'s?

| You are correct. She finshed 6th.
Much congrats to Zoya! Everyone at the CAA-FC is extremely happy. Plus, we have another "A" fencer to fence with!

| According to the results page on the USFA website, the Junior Women's Foil is a Group A3 event, which means only the top-4 earn A's. Zoya, if not already an A, would not be an A because of her 6th place finish.

| For the winos... She could adopt as a motto:
"Premiere ne puis, seconde ne daigne, Zoya suis."
until she gets her A, when she might switch over to:
"Premiere je suis, seconde je fus, Zoya ne change."

| These are, well, shall we say "modifications" of the former and present mottoes of the vinyard Chateau Mouton-Rothchilds.
In 1855, the French put all their vinyards into quality classes. They stuck Mouton in class two -- possibly because its English owner didn't make it to the conference. For years, their wine was clearly equal or superior to the class-one wines, but the French refused to change their original classification. Hence Mouton's first motto: First I cannot be. Second I do not deign to be. Mouton I am.
Then in 1973 -- for the only time ever -- they promoted Mouton to first class. Of course the motto had to change to what it is today: First I am. Second I was. Mouton never changes.
A neat anecdote for anyone who thinks that they may be under-rated.
