    Lame washing

how exactly do i clean my lame? it's new, only been used this season and it's practically my child. I don't want to hurt it or give it dead spots... anyone have a good home-made solution?

Here's how the people at my club taught me to wash a lamé:

    1.Fill a pail of water.
2.Put in a drop of detergent.
    3.Soak the lamé.
4.Remove the lamé after a few minutes.
5.Dry it with a cloth and blow it with a fan if you want to make the drying process quicker(do not hang it in the sun).
6.Hang it up somewhere for the remianing moisture to dry up.

This should be the correct method.Armorers, correct me if I'm wrong

You can also find some useful tips on taking care of your lamé under the armory section.

Read the bottom of this post. Some people recommends Ivory soap or a very mild soap.

One important thing is to adjust your washing schedule to how much you fence and how much you sweat.

Stay ahead of it, and don't let too much discoloration build up around the neckline or the sleeves (if you are fortunate enough to fence sabre).

And I've been told repeatedly that the most important part is rinsing thoroughly after the mild detergent/ammonia wash.

Remember, a fencer with a dead lame might as well be fencing epee.
