Array Europe Direct Hello all,
I was browsing the websites yesterday and came across something interesting. What I am looking for is a french grip blue maranging FIE complete foil, Allstar or Uhlmann. The US vendors sell for upwards of $120, but if you go to Allstar or Uhlman's websites, they sell for about 80 euros! However, upon reading Uhlman's sales policy, it said you couldn't buy from them direct if there was a official retailer in your country.
I am willing to wait a while for international shipping so:
1. Is it possible to buy direct from overseas manufacturers?
2. If so, could someone please direct me in the process, and
3. About how much would shipping run?
Thanks very much. "Foil fencers talk about the techniques of fencing, epee fencers talk about the esoterics of fencing, sabre fencers talk about themselves." -

Array - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array You can order on-line. They will ship and can take anywhere from 10 days to a month. Shipping varies by weight. Start from around $30 and up. Expect to pay some credit card transaction fee. My last one with Visa cost $12. Best to pool an order with 1 or 2 others so you can share shipping costs and other fees. It is a great deal. -

Array Uhlmann will ship to VA, but they will not ship to some other states. All-star will not ship directly to the states as they have and exclusive with Blade.
Another poster did mention the shipping, and it is a lot if you are just buying one or two items, but if you are getting several you can figure that everything will still be about half off compared to the US prices. Or to put another way you can get some of the best gear for Chinese junk prices.
I have always gotten great service from them but if you need something NOW or you need just a replacement blade it is better to go with a US vendor.
However I think that if you spread the word around your club that you can get D'artagnan shoes for 50 bucks, Uhlmann blades from 40 up, FIE comfort plus colored masks for 90 and so on you will have no problem having some folks go in with you.
By the way, Uhlmann does not give discounts for bulk orders unless you have been with them for a while or your order is half a truck! Still, at German prices who needs discounts.
Good luck. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

FechtSport Langenkamp's online ordering is currently still down from a nasty fire they had at their web server location. I placed an order just before the fire. I didn't even get a confirmation email for three weeks and had to call them. Once I learned of the fire, I told them the order again (on the phone) and they shipped it right out. Absolutely zero problems once the little computer failure was worked out. Cost me 30 bucks for shipping, but I got the whole order (FIE mask, knickers, jacket, body cord), for about what the jacket would have cost in the US. That was in December when the dollar was worth more than the Euro, it would cost a bit more now (something like $1.25 for a Euro now ) Anyway, I'd highly reccommend them if you don't mind waiting (and dealing with European sizes for clothing). -
