Array USA Men's foil team takes 4th in Paris The tableau can be seen here: http://www.escrime-ffe.fr/cip/eq/tableau%20de%2032.htm
They beat Israel, then Belgium, then lost to Spain in the top 4 and Italy in the bout for 3rd place.
Both Israel and Belgium are pretty strong foil teams, and this team world cup was a pretty strong one, so I guess this is a very good result indeed by the US foil team. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array I was just saying in a saber thread that I would love to see US foil looking as strong as saber is looking in FIE. I guess I should have waited a day or so!
Congrats to the US team! Way to show the flag! Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

sheesh veeco,
In your post about the USA Men's foil team taking 4th place in Paris is there one mention of women in here? HELL NO! How unenlightened! -

Array And let's not forget the wheelchair women's sabre squad. Why are they always left in the dark? -

Array It's a damned shame that Dmitri KirkGordon had to meet Eli Miloslavsky in the round of 128. They fence each other fairly often and they had to meet up so soon.
Similarly, Tim Chang had to meet Josh MacGuire in the round of 128, with MacGuire winning that bout. At least Josh won the next bout as well. -

Can you believe travelling halfway around the world for a tournament and fence your teammate in the first DE of a world cup tournament which had about 150 entries? What a waste of time and money and energy...
They should have "decalage" in the first round of the DE at least in world cups I think... - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array Footage from the CIP final http://www.escrime-tv.com has the last few touches of the individuals final.
The bout starts with a 3 touch deficit for Wessels (something like 10-13 I think).
Nassiboulin seems very smooth at first, but Wessels shows why he is number one and comes back from the 3 touch deficit.
At the end, the score is tied 14-14, and Nassibouline scores a really nice touch. It seems like Wessels was too eager to finish and launched an attack without too much preparation, and Nassiboulin took advantage of that.
It's nice to hear all the audience cheering in the background. Most of these people had to pay 10 euros to get in, too!
I think people should watch out for Nassiboulin, he could be the next big thing in men's foil. I really like his style anyway.

Array Talking about stall tactics on the strip by both fencers. It took more than 30 sec. to restart after being 14-14. At an earlier point, Nassiboulin had been scored on. He takes his mask walks all the way to the end of the strip while Wessels is already at the guard line. I know. We all do it, but my point is that a small stall is part of pacing the bout. -
