Help with restoring a sabre mask

I have heard that there is an armourer who can take my decrepit mask and, for a
fee, fix it.
If that is true, could someone post where I can contact whoever does it?
Thanks
Anne

Anne - it's unlikely that there's any magic that can make a decrepit mask as
safe as a brand new one. Wire mesh weakens and rusts, and has to be replaced, etc.
Take the best care of yourself and get a new mask...
regards, Jeff

Re: Help with restoring a sabre mask

Jeff is right -- if the mask is that old, then you should get a new one;
HOWEVER, if what you meant was that you had an electric sabre mask that
just needed to have the lame material replaced, yes, there are people
who do that -- I don't recall who, but someone here can point you to them.

It certainly makes a difference by what Anne means by a decrepit Sabre mask. No
one advises anyone to overlook deteriorated mesh. but that is what mask punches
are for.

If it is just deteriorated Lame fabric, then by all means get it fixed up. I
have replaced the Lame twice on my 1990 Allstar FIE mask and I have no
reservations about it being safe at all. I use it 2 or 3 times a week but I do
take great pains to open my fencing bag and let everything dry out between
uses.

What I would really like to ring alarm bells about is some of the inexpensive
masks that have a bib consisting of only Lame fabric, foam, and interior fabric
layer. When such a mask gets a hole in the Lame fabric it MUST be taken out of
service. Take a mask punch or even a pencil, poke it through the hole and feel
the point on the inside.

Despite its nice shiny appearance, duct tape is not conductive.
