    Insurance for International Travel

I've been trying to find trip insurance that would cover medical expense and loss of equipment, but all the carriers I've looked at have an exclusion for "any loss arrising either directly or indirectly out of or as a result of patricipation in professional or amateur sports events, including training."

The folks at one carrier told me fencing would fall in the extreme, high risk sports category, which includes hang gliding, bungee jumping, caving, mountain climbing, parachuting, and any skiing outside marked trails.

Does anyone here have a carrier they use for travel to Europe
    for tournaments?

    Thanks!

    Mills,
When I used to book my insurance through STA travel (There should be one on your local Uni campus somewhere) as long as I provided a list of what I was carrying with replacement values their insurance used to cover me. It works too as I had a mask stolen in Sydney a couple of years ago and they paid for the replacement. It was FIE too. You may have to pay a percentage (I think its 10%) of teh value of your equipment if it is over 2000 dollars. But its worth it. The STA insurance is also good as it covers so called extreme sports such as bungee jumping. It may be different in the US however as the insurance is sold as STA insurance but I think there are different companies underwriting it. Hope this helps.

PS I have found that generally most travel agents have no idea about insurance for specific purposes. You would be better off contacting a sports specialist travel agency, one who organises group travel for sporting groups for competitions.
Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls!

Many credit cards provide default coverage for anything for which you use the card to pay. It may be worth checking your cardholder agreement to see if it insures what you need to insure ( I'm almost sure that loss of belongings by a common carrier would be, not sure about medical ).
