| Do these require an FIE license through the USFA office? |

| No, as long as you have an active USFA or CFF (Canadian) membership. |

| Aren't they aware that there's a Junior/Div I NAC in San Diego that weekend? I'm more likely to guess that some Mexican fencers, juniors even, would attend that event than go to Mexico for this stated event.

| There are three open tournaments, each with a senior, junior and cadet competitions.
Tournament I - January 17,18 & 19.
Cadet competitions ---> 1/17
Senior (Div.1) and Junior Combined---> 1/18 -1/19
At the completion of the Combined Div1/Junior, the top 8 juniors would compete in a final table for the junior medals.
Tournament II - January 31, February 1, & 2.
Cadet competitions ---> 1/31
Senior (Div.1) and Junior Combined---> 2/1-2/2
At the completion of the Combined Div1/Junior, the top 8 juniors would compete in a final table for the junior medals.
Tournament III - February 14, 15 & 16. 2003.
same format.
Competing in only one weapon per category: Cadet or Junior/Div.1 (a.k.a.: 1ra fuerza).
The reason for the cluster is the need to select the team that would represent the country in the Centroamerican (7/03 ) and Panamerican (08/03) games, both at Dominican Republic. Thus, if they want to have a chance at making to those games, they would need to compete in all three.

| they must be aware of it, but possibly are trying to draw from the calilfornia pool to be more competitive. |

| What's the usual strength/draw for these? Comparable to a Div I NAC? A big regional Open? |

| Eric,
The invitation is open to USFA and CFF fencers to consider attending one (or all) of the three tournaments. The USFA schedule shows:
NAC DIVISION I/JUNIOR/WHEELCHAIR, San Diego, CA, 1/17/2003-1/20/2003 (conflicting with the first tournament for A-C fencers)
and the JUNIOR OLYMPICS, Colorado Springs, CO, 2/14/2003-2/17/2003 conflict for only Juniors.
Thus, if any div. 1 fencer from USFA/CFF would like to compete (and perhaps win), they can participate on the second and/or third open.
Inquartata,
They are relatively small competitions (25-50 per category) with about the top 8 often having FIE points. So, it's kind of a regional with a few excellent fencers. Still, bragging rights "I won the Mexican Open"! |

| any chance in the future these could be announced a couple of months or so in advance so that palns could be made? that would be a great excuse to go to Mexico but I can't get away on this short a notice.

In fact we try to get any fencer that might be interested in participating in an international tournament, in the past weīve had senior fencers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, etc. in our selective tournaments we know that the more international you can make your event your quality also goes up just take a look at any FIE class A event or some of your NACīs, some of the fencers here will be comming on the strip in the opposite direction to you at the Pan-Am games this year.
So every one is cordially invited.
Best Regards

| These 3 competitions were great fun, and in fact are the most important competitions within Mexico. The National Teams and the state teams to go to the National Jr. Olympics are seeded from these competitions. The salle is right inside the Olympic Center, and you can arrange to buy a food pass for only $7.00 per day for 3 meals - so you don't have to leave the area. I highly recommend that anyone who can make it, do so. Many many people in attendance are bi-lingual, including the Tech. Director Sr. Cisneros. This summer there will be 3 competitions open to all so try to come! |
