    2010 NCAA Prediction thread

Well, now that the field has been released, it's time to predict the winners (both team and individual).

    Here's the field: http://www.ncaa.com/sports/c-fenc/sp...031610aaa.html

    Have at it!

I'll say Peter French, Garek Meinhardt, Daryl Homer, Courtney Hurley, Dorris Willet, and Becca Ward.
    "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."

(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..."

The fact that you don't have Alex Ochocki making the 4 I find pretty surprising. He won it last year and is now on your Junior Team.

All PSU fencers get a +2 during their DEs, so if you think fencer X from PSU can score 13 points against some opponent on a regular day, then expect X to win against that opponent on NCAA National Championships.

That's the fun of predicting. Sometimes you have to go with a few upsets. It's not terribly uncommon for a fencer to win one year and not make the 4 the next (for example, Spear won in 2008 and didn't make the 4 last year when Ochoki won).

Well, there's not much point in offering an elaborate justification for my picks, since they basically involved a quick scan of recent results and nothing else.

That said, I think there's a pretty good case for these four ahead of Ochocki and others. Homer is the obvious favorite; Spear, Nydam, and Zuck are all ahead of Ochocki in the senior points, made the 8 at a Div. I NAC this season (unlike Ochocki), and are not on the junior team mainly because they aren't juniors. Also, Ochocki won't have any home field advantage this time around.

Maybe first ever in epee. There are others who four-peated in MS and WF. Did Felicia Zimmermann four-peat, but three times in foil and once in epee?

Felicia won twice, once in WF (1998) and once in WE (1999).

Quite a few threepeats, but only 1 4time champ so far.
Doris Willette will be going for her 3rd Championship, besides the Zingerman's well publicized attempt for 4.

I like this one more since it lists winning coaches as well :

8 Olympic Medalists amongst the NCAA Champion Fencers / yet 1 Coach.

Other than the OTHER 4-time champion, of course.

As previously mentioned in this thread.
