Yes. No.

Sometimes they have better rates at hotels attached or close to the venue, for example, the Omni in Atlanta, and sometimes they don't, for example, the Galt Hotel in Louisville was half the THS price on hotels.com.

Two downsides of THS are:

- their cancellation policy is usually three days before arrival vs same or one day cancellation policies when booking elsewhere
- sometimes they have two night minimum stays, for example, the Doubletree in Virginia or the Broadmoor in Colorado

Another downside is that they're incompetent.

The biggest problem we have had with THS has been when we've made changes to a reservation to arrive on a different date, THS didn't notify the hotel. The hotel, when we don't arrive on the initial date, cancelled the rest of our stay. We'd show up and have no reservation. It happened twice. Now I always call the hotel to verify that they have the correct arrival date (twice had to have them fix it) after I have THS change it.

Yes. No.

One of my fencers' parents reserved a room through THS for a NAC, and paid for it. THS then emailed her back two weeks later to tell her that the reservation was cancelled and her card had been refunded. Then they sent her reminders that she had to pay for the room, then they reminded her her reservation was cancelled.

She went through an online thing and got a room in the same hotel cheaper, even weeks closer to the event. And they're still sending her random emails about all sorts of stuff.
